Leandro Junior de Sousa is a painter and sculptor. Born in Vale do Jequitinhonha, in Minas Gerais, Brazil, he studied art at Faculdade São Luiz de Jaboticabal, in the interior of São Paulo. Over the past three years, he has participated in individual and group exhibitions in galleries and museums, including: “Memories and Culture of the Jequitinhonha Valley”, Recanto das Artes Cultural Center, Jequitinhonha Valley, BR (2021): “Widows of Living Husbands”, Museum of Sacred Art, São Paulo, BR (2021); “Memories and Culture of the Jequitinhonha Valley”, Instituto Santo Amaro, São Paulo, BR (2021); “The Substance of Earth: O Sertão”, Slag Gallery, New York, USA (2021); “A Substância da Terra: O Sertão”, National Museum of the Republic, Brasília, BR (2020); “Terra”, Central Galeria, São Paulo, BR (2020); Leandro was a full scholarship holder at Simon Watson Arts - Artist in Residence, São Paulo, BR (2019 - 2022). In addition to his artistic practice, he has ten years of experience as a teacher, working with young adults from the Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS), with adolescents from the Quilombo de Cuba and with other quilombola communities in the Jequitinhonha Valley.
