  Hugo Brazao’s work develops from ideas of mockery, the fiction/reality paradox and the importance of materiality in a world that is increasingly detaching itself from the physical. He does so by creating or appropriating contemporary myths or fabricated realities and finding its relationship with hyperreality, current politics, our engagement with the physical territory and the present-day reliance on commodity. He has worked around varied examples such as space exploration, psychological phenomena and the relationship we build with digital images. By reactivating or reimagining the material found within his research and playing with the technical possibilities of it, he looks into finding and solving the possible narratives that are created around it. This part research, part experimental process usually takes form of installations, involving different techniques and finding itself in between painting, sculpture, textile work and publication.
