Vicente Matallana
Cultural manager focused in the transgression between Ars, Science, and Technology.

Vicente Matallana is the director of the BEEP Electronic Art Collection, as well as the founder and director of LaAgencia, an independent new media art company created in 1998 in Madrid. LaAgencia is engaged in programs and projects focused on new media art as an alternative paradigm of research and knowledge. Matallana is also a teacher and lecturer and regularly publishes articles and sits on international juries, seminars and committees for new media art. He is professor in the new Master in Curatorial Studies at Universidad de Navarra. With Joasia Krysa, he has been the co-director of the Kunsthal Aarhus, Aarhus. He is a member of the advisory board of Kurator, as well as a member of the board of directors and treasurer of the Institute of Contemporary Art, the main art professional association of Spain. Vicente is also the director of the NewArtFoundation, and project director of ArtFutura, the veteran digital art festival in Spain.
  Vicente Matallana is the founder and executive director of LaAgencia, an independent new media art company created in 1998 in Madrid. Its mandate is to respond to the new structural needs required by the incorporation of new technologies in art. LaAgencia is engaged in programs and projects focused on new media art as an alternative paradigm of research and knowledge. As a production company, LaAgencia is a forerunner in the field of new media art collaborating with major organizations and artists. LaAgencia has produced the exhibition “Máquinas y Almas” (Souls and Machines) for Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, Spain, has been responsible of the ideation, development and production of the exhibition “Sueños de Silicio” (Silicon Dreams) for the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and has recently produced the exhibitions “ArtFutura Roma: Creture Digitali” the first new media art exhibition in the millennial city, “Creative Approaches to the Beep Electronic Art Collection” the first exhibition of the whole Beep Electronic Art Collection, a special appointment in the city that saw it born, and the presentation of this Collection at the ArsElectronica Festival in Linz, Austria. LaAgencia has been collaborating with ARCOmadrid since 1999, in charge of the technical coordination of the new media art sections, such as the NetSpace@ARCO, BlackBox and ExpandedBox and responsible for developing and managing the programs organized by ARCO related to new media art, such as the ARCO-BEEP Electronic Art Prize, the Arte 2.0 Competition of Ideas organized by Vocento, Araneum Award and the ElMundo NetArt Award, as well as the sponsorship and technological alliances. With the former director of ARCOmadrid, Rosina Gómez-Baeza, LaAgencia developed the master plan and opening program of the Laboral, Center for Art and Industrial Creation, Gijon Spain. This project involved the design and development of a 15,000 square meter center from scratch, giving it the uses and services necessary to accommodate from exhibitions to workshops and seminars. LaAgencia has worked with a group of prominent industrial agents from Catalonia in the development of a new foundation, the New Art Foundation for the research and development programs between Art, Science and Technology. Nowadays, LaAgencia has assumed the Project Direction of the New Art Foundation and Vicente Matallana is the Director of the Foundation. LaAgencia has also assumed since 2010 the Project Direction of the ArtFutura Festival, the veteran Digital Art Festival in Spain. He is also teacher and lecturer and regularly publishes articles and sits on international juries, seminars, and committees for new media art.
